Test Name:

PML::RARA t(15;17)

CPT Code:

81315

Turn Around Time:

24 – 72 hours

Clinical Application:

Detection and quantitative monitoring of the PML::RARA fusion transcripts, the molecular result of the t(15;17) translocation, associated with the majority of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cases.

Diagnosis and monitoring.

Methodology:

Real-Time Quantitative PCR, minimum sensitivity: 0.01%

Multiplex PCR test can detect all three possible PML:RARA isoforms, referred to as long (L, or bcr1), variant (V, or bcr2) and short (S, or BCR3)

STAT testing available upon request.

Specimen Requirements:

RNA-based assays

Peripheral Blood: Minimum 2 mL in EDTA (purple top) preferred or 2 mL in sodium heparin (green top)

Bone Marrow: Minimum 2 mL in EDTA (purple top) preferred or 2 mL in sodium heparin (green top)

Storage and Transportation:

Please store and ship specimens at ambient temperatures.

Ship RNA-based assays within 24 hours for optimal results.

Please refer to our full specimen requirements at Hematologics/Specimen Requirements for additional information and for directions on the storage and shipping of extracted DNA or RNA.
